About Rebound Repair: Specialized Instrument and Amplifier Repair for Chicago Musicians

At Rebound Repair, we know your instrument is more than a piece of gear. It is what you practice with, write with, record with, perform with, and sometimes rely on every single day. Our roots go back to 2010, when the business first opened as Shake Shop, and in 2022 we began a new chapter as Rebound Repair in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. Today, we focus on fretted string instruments and amplifiers, giving guitarists, bassists, performers, recording artists, hobbyists, and other musicians a local place to get thoughtful, specialized repair and maintenance.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

Why We Built a Repair Shop Around Musicians’ Real Needs

Rebound Repair grew from a simple idea: musicians deserve a dependable place to bring the gear that matters to them. Instruments and amplifiers are deeply personal tools, and when something starts buzzing, cutting out, playing poorly, or simply feeling wrong, it can throw off everything from a quiet practice session to a full performance.

We wanted to create a shop that understood that frustration and treated every repair with the attention it deserved. Rather than trying to be everything to everyone, we chose to focus specifically on fretted string instruments and amplifiers so we could build our work around the needs of guitarists, bassists, and other players who depend on this equipment.

That specialization still defines us today. We believe focused expertise, careful evaluation, and honest communication create a better experience than a one-size-fits-all approach.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

From Shake Shop to Rebound Repair

Our story began in 2010 under the name Shake Shop. Over the years, the business built relationships with local musicians and developed a reputation as a place where people could bring important gear for thoughtful repair and maintenance.

In 2022, we moved to our current Logan Square location and became Rebound Repair. That transition was more than a name change. It marked a new stage in the life of the business and gave us the opportunity to establish a clearer identity around the specialized services we provide.

Like any independent repair business, we have had to adapt to changing customer needs, changing equipment, and the realities of running a neighborhood shop. Through those shifts, we have kept our priorities consistent: do careful work, communicate clearly, respect the gear, and make the process feel personal.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

Focused on Fretted Instruments and Amplifiers

One of the biggest things that sets Rebound Repair apart is our decision to stay focused. We do not try to repair every kind of musical instrument under the sun, because specialization allows us to spend our time and attention on the equipment our customers actually bring to us most often.

Our work centers on fretted string instruments and amplifiers, which makes us a natural fit for guitarists, bassists, performers, recording musicians, and players who want to keep their gear in dependable working condition. Whether the issue is obvious or hard to pin down, we take the time to understand what you are experiencing before determining the next step.

That focused approach also helps us build deeper familiarity with the kinds of problems musicians deal with regularly. We’re not treating your guitar, bass, or amp like just another object in a queue. We understand that it is part of how you make music.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

We Treat Your Gear Like It Matters

Musicians notice details. A guitar that feels slightly off, an amp that behaves differently under volume, or a setup that no longer feels comfortable can make a real difference in how someone plays. That is why attention to detail matters so much in this kind of work.

Our approach begins with careful evaluation and a conversation about what you are hearing, feeling, or noticing. We want to understand not only what the equipment is doing, but also how you use it and what you need from it when it is working properly.

From there, we can help determine the appropriate repair or service. We avoid making promises we cannot support, and we do not believe in pretending every issue has an instant answer. Good repair work often starts with taking the time to assess the equipment properly.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

Supporting Chicago’s Music Community One Repair at a Time

Chicago has an incredible music culture, and being part of that community is one of the things that keeps us motivated. The people who come through our shop are practicing for gigs, writing songs, rehearsing with bands, preparing for studio sessions, teaching, collecting, or simply playing because they love it.

Helping someone get an instrument or amplifier back into proper working condition may seem like a small thing from the outside, but we know it can make a huge difference to the person waiting on that gear. A repaired amp can mean making the next rehearsal. A properly serviced guitar can mean feeling confident at a show. A solved problem can mean getting back to creating instead of worrying about equipment.

That connection to the actual work musicians are doing is what makes this business meaningful to us. After all, we’re not just fixing gear. We are helping people get back to using it.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

A Neighborhood Shop With a Personal Approach

Rebound Repair is rooted in Chicago’s Logan Square community, and we value the neighborhood feel of the business. We want customers to be comfortable walking in, asking questions, and talking through what is happening with their gear without feeling like they need to know all the technical language first.

Our team is approachable, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented, and we care about helping musicians make informed decisions about their equipment. That means honest communication and personalized service are just as important to us as the repair itself.

We also understand that different musicians have different priorities. A touring player, a recording artist, a weekend performer, and someone playing at home may all care about different things, so we try to understand the context before recommending a path forward.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

The Kind of Team We Want Behind the Bench

When we think about the kind of people who fit Rebound Repair, technical skill is only part of the picture. We look for people who are reliable, curious, detail-oriented, and genuinely interested in musical instruments and equipment.

We also care about how people communicate. Customers need to feel comfortable asking questions, and they deserve clear explanations about what is happening with their gear. Someone can be technically talented and still be the wrong fit if they do not respect the customer or the instrument.

That mindset shapes our culture. We want the shop to feel professional without feeling stiff, knowledgeable without feeling condescending, and focused without losing the human side of the work.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

Honest Communication Before the Work Begins

The first interaction with Rebound Repair usually starts with a conversation. You tell us what you are experiencing, what instrument or amplifier you have, and what seems to be going wrong. From there, we can help determine the next step and whether an in-person evaluation makes sense.

We believe that process should be straightforward. You should not feel pressured to know the diagnosis before you contact us, and you should not have to guess whether something is serious enough to deserve attention.

If you are unsure whether your guitar, bass, or amp needs professional service, it is still worth reaching out. Sometimes the most useful first step is simply talking through the symptoms with someone who works on this kind of equipment every day.

OUR SHOP & OUR APPROACH

Why Musicians Keep Coming Back

Trust matters a lot in instrument and amplifier repair because customers are often handing over something valuable, sentimental, difficult to replace, or essential to their work. We take that responsibility seriously.

Our local reputation is built around specialization, careful attention, and a personal approach. We want customers to feel that their gear was handled thoughtfully and that they were kept informed rather than left guessing.

That kind of experience is what we hope leads people to return and recommend us to other musicians. In a music community, word travels quickly, and we believe the best way to earn that word-of-mouth is simply to do good work and treat people well.

GOOD QUESTIONS. CLEAR ANSWERS.
